Creating a new in-app chatbot persona
At the heart of each app on Health.io's line of urine tests lies a chatbot, allowing patients to get a step-by-step guidance with completing our home tests.
In late 2022 the comany started developing a brand new patient facing app for our wound care services, and after setting the basic flow for the MVP it was clear we needed a brand new character to build the app around.
We wanted to find a character who is relatable to both our end users (the patients) and our partners (the clinics and wound care nurses). The chatbot character would guide patients on how to scan their wound for the first time and be there for the next scans as the wound slowly heals.
As the healing process may take weeks or even months, the character could also serve as a link between the patients' and the nurses once the wound's care plan changes according to its progression.
As product design lead I was very much involved in planning the initial flow, but I was I was mainly in charge of imagining and illustrating the newest member of Healthy.io's chatbot family.

Rose is born
After quite a few iterations of different characters of different ethnicity, age, body shape and styling we decided to dig deeper with the following illustration which evolved into Rose, our new chatbot character.
